Duelling Starbucks analogies today.
- Stop Using The Cup of Coffee vs. $0.99 App Analogy - I viscerally agree, minus any explicit “educate your customers” overtones (h/t @prendio2).
- What Starbucks Gets that Architects Don’t - Jejune. This is not a critique by someone who worked in architecture, or really anything for very long. As one of my personal Hall of Fame articles has it, “no good deed goes unpunished.” The average piece of architecture is, well, average. Duh. I’ve stopped being much surprised by this.
- They may have the money, but we have the tools of technology - “Many developers I speak to shy away from politics. They comfort themselves with ideas of our community being meritocratic, that the good guys will win out over partisan and agenda based politics because we are working towards a more logical, educated society. This is, of course, the same lie as the fully informed rational consumer of market liberalisation. They shrug when it’s pointed out that we’re nearly all white middle class men.” (Thanks, @abscond, for redeeming my view of the energetic youngsters on Medium a bit today). (h/t @aanand).
- FastImageCache - Making up an uncompressed sprite sheet. Slick.
